Matariki

We used the book entitled 'The Seven Kites of Matariki' as our inspiration for our kites -sled and manu tukutuku- , plaster of paris moulds and for retelling the story.
The children made sled kites and are in the process of writing instructions on how they were made.They will then use Explain Everything as a publishing medium uploading their work to seesaw accounts.
We also made some plaster of paris moulds depicting our chosen scene from the book.They firstly drew their picture onto paper, flattened out some clay in a paper plate, sketched out their design and then proceeded to copy their picture by carving into the clay.I then poured plaster of paris into the mould and the children had the wonderful job of picking out the clay and painting their work.I think they were pretty pleased with their results!
